4,866 passengers fined for traveling without tickets

DHAKA, Jan 01, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Railway (BR) has identified a total of 4,866 passengers travelling without tickets by conducting drives on 143 trains in a single day on Wednesday. 

A total of Taka 9,47,363 was collected from them as fares and fines during the drive, according to a report published on Bangladesh Railway’s verified Facebook page today.

According to the report, during an operation carried out on Wednesday in the Eastern Zone of Bangladesh Railway, a total of 97 Ticket Inspectors (TTs) were deployed. They conducted ticket inspection activities on 66 trains, identifying 1,959 ticketless passengers. During the operation, fares amounting to Taka 2,93,048 and fines totaling Taka 1,32,720 were collected. 

The total collected amount stood at Taka 4,29,778. 

A total of 2,370 tickets were verified during the drives.

Meanwhile, in the Western Zone, 88 TTs carried out inspections on 77 trains. During the operation, 2,907 ticketless passengers were identified. Fares were collected amounting to Taka  3,78,180, while penalties stood at Taka 1,50,135, bringing the total to Taka 5,18,315. Additionally, 1,241  tickets were verified during the drives.

Bangladesh Railway stated that such drives are part of continued efforts to curb ticketless travel and improve revenue collection.
