DU VC meets Tarique Rahman, condoles Begum Zia's demise

DHAKA, Jan 5, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan today paid a courtesy call on BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

The meeting was held this evening at the BNP Chairperson's political office in Gulshan, according to a DU press release.

During the meeting, the DU Vice-Chancellor expressed his deep condolences over the death of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. He prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to Tarique Rahman.

Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad Khan briefed the BNP Acting Chairman on various issues, including overall security and stability of the DU campus ahead of the national polls, progress of ongoing development projects -- particularly DU's large-scale development initiatives -- the post-election situation of the DUCSU polls, education and research activities, the university's progress in international rankings and recent initiatives undertaken for student welfare.

He also talked about various programmes organized by Dhaka University in memory of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia following her demise.

Highlighting the importance of campus stability for the national elections, the DU Vice-Chancellor sought cooperation from the BNP Acting Chairman to maintain overall stability at the university, as well as to support education, research and infrastructural development.

In response, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman assured full cooperation in all possible areas, including DU's education and research advancement and infrastructure development.

Prior to the meeting, the DU Vice-Chancellor signed the condolence book at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan.
