DHAKA, Jan 5, 2026 (BSS) - Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party General Secretary Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad today called on all political forces to remain united, regardless of party affiliation, on issues of national interest and state sovereignty.

He said political differences and debates are natural, but unity is essential when it comes to national interest and sovereignty.

Barrister Fuad made the remarks while briefing journalists after a meeting with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman at the BNP Chairperson's political office on Monday afternoon.

He said the meeting included detailed discussions on state sovereignty, national interest, the future political framework of the country and various important policy issues.

During the briefing, Barrister Fuad said the political and economic framework introduced by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman for statehood and nation-building should form the foundation of Bangladesh's future politics and state reconstruction. He noted that all political forces wish to operate within that framework.

He further emphasized that all parties must remain united on issues of sovereignty, national interest and opposition to hegemonic influence from Delhi, while differences of opinion on various policy matters remain a natural right in democratic politics.

Barrister Fuad said the meeting also stressed the need to establish a Westminster-style democratic political system in Bangladesh. In addition, discussions covered key policy issues such as making Dhaka city more livable, reducing unemployment, environmental protection and reforms in the education and health sectors.

He added that Tarique Rahman expressed keen interest in engaging in discussions on policy matters and showed willingness to hold regular dialogues on such issues in the future.

Reiterating his stance, Barrister Fuad said there would be no compromise on national interest and sovereignty and all political forces must remain united on these matters.

Responding to a question from journalists regarding cricketer Mustafizur Rahman, he said the issue should not be viewed solely from a sports perspective but also as a political matter.

The AB Party delegation at the meeting included party Chairman Mujibur Rahman Manju, Joint General Secretary Barrister Zobayer Ahmed Bhuiyan and Barrister Nasrin Sultana Mili.
