DHAKA, Jan 6, 2026 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today ordered the attachment of 20 acres of land and an SUV of former state minister for shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury. The court also ordered the appointment of a receiver to maintain the properties.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The court also ordered the freezing of eight bank accounts of the former Dinajpur-2 lawmaker.

The ACC plea said that while serving as a public servant, accused Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury allegedly engaged in criminal misconduct and abuse of power to illegally amass assets worth Taka 5.73 crore in his own name. He is also accused of conducting suspicious transactions amounting to Taka 13.68 crore through 11 bank accounts and five card accounts, prompting the ACC to file a case.

The case is currently under investigation. During the investigation, information was obtained regarding the acquisition of both movable and immovable assets in the name of Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury. Reliable sources have informed investigators that there is a possibility the accused may transfer or otherwise change ownership of his movable and immovable assets, or go into hiding through other means.

In the interest of a fair investigation, a decision was taken to file a petition with the court seeking attachment and freezing of the movable and immovable assets acquired in the name of the accused, along with the appointment of a receiver to manage the attached properties, the plea added.
