DHAKA, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) - Independent candidate Dr. Tasnim Jara has been allotted her preferred 'football' symbol to contest the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections from Dhaka-9 constituency.

The Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer, Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, formally handed over the symbol allotment letter to Dr. Jara at his Segunbagicha office this morning.

Speaking to journalists after receiving the symbol, Dr. Jara said, "I am contesting from Dhaka-9 constituency, which includes Khilgaon, Sabujbagh, and Mugda areas, with the 'football' symbol in the upcoming national elections."

On her election campaign, she added, "We will begin our campaign from tomorrow. Our contest will focus on the kind of politics we envision for the future - politics of transparency and accountability."

The physician also sought prayers and good wishes from everyone, especially the voters of Dhaka-9.

Dr. Tasnim Jara is the only independent candidate among 12 contestants in the constituency, while the remaining 11 are representing different political parties.

Earlier, she regained her candidacy in an Election Commission appeal hearing on January 10 and subsequently applied for the 'football' symbol.
