DHAKA, Jan 29, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today imposed a travel ban on Md. Tarek Hasan, additional commissioner and first secretary of the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The court has also ordered the seizure of a flat in Dhaka registered in his name and the freezing of his two bank accounts, three fixed deposit receipts (FRDs), four life insurance policies and three Beneficiary Owner (BO) accounts.
Judge Md. Sabbir Fayez of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court today passed the order following two separate petitions filed by the investigation officer of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
In the petition seeking the travel ban, it was stated that the verification and investigation of the asset statement submitted by Md. Tarek Hasan is currently ongoing. During the investigation, confidential sources revealed that he may attempt to flee abroad. If he leaves the country, there is a strong possibility that the investigation process will be hampered. Therefore, in the interest of the proper investigation, it is necessary to restrict his foreign travel.
In the other petition, it was stated that during the verification and investigation of his asset statement, it was found that Tarek Hasan possesses assets worth about Taka 29.8 million including two deed-acquired immovable properties, two bank accounts, three FDRs, three BO accounts and four life insurance policies.
Confidential sources have indicated that he is attempting to transfer or dispose of these assets. If the assets are not seized or frozen, there is a possibility that they may be misappropriated. In the interest of a proper investigation, it is therefore necessary to urgently seize the immovable assets and freeze the movable assets and bank accounts.
