Flower seller killed after being hit by two motorbikes in Shahbagh

DHAKA, Feb 19, 2026 (BSS) - A 45-year-old woman was killed after being struck by two speeding motorbikes while getting down from a rickshaw in front of a nursing college in Shahbagh, Dhaka,  on Wednesday night.

The deceased, Mukta Akhter, was a flower seller by profession and used to sell flowers in Shahbagh area to support her family.

The accident occurred around 10 pm on February 18. According to family members, Mukta was returning home by rickshaw at night. As she got off the rickshaw in front of Shahbagh Nursing College, two speeding motorbikes hit her, causing her to fall onto the road and lose consciousness.

Passersby rescued her and rushed her to the Emergency Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. She was later shifted to the One Stop Emergency Center (OSEC), where doctors declared her dead around 2 am while she was undergoing treatment.

Mukta’s cousin, Billal Hossain, said she hailed from the Noapara area of Jashore district and was currently living in Roni Market area of Kamrangirchar. 

“She used to sell flowers in Shahbagh and run her family. The reckless speeding of the motorbikes took her life,” he said.

Inspector Mohammad Faruk, in-charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed that the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Two motorbike drivers have been arrested and the two motorcycles involved in the accident have been seized.
