GAZIPUR, Feb 25, 2026 (BSS)- Newly appointed Administrator of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Shawkat Hossain Sarkar today unveiled a 180-day action plan aimed at accelerating the city’s development.

He announced the plan after assuming office at the City Hall and holding meetings with officials, including a virtual discussion with the Local Government Secretary.

To ease traffic congestion, he said the foundation stone of a flyover over the Joydebpur rail crossing will be laid within six months.

Construction of two bridges in Kashimpur to improve connectivity with Savar and Ashulia will also begin, alongside development of alternative roads linking Gazipur with Dhaka.

Highlighting environmental priorities, the administrator said 19 canals across the metropolitan area will be excavated on an urgent basis to reduce water logging and mosquito breeding.

He also pledged to build a green and clean city by freeing sidewalks from illegal occupation, strength waste management, removing unauthorized cable lines and improving street lighting.

He announced tough measures against terrorism, extortion and juvenile gangs, and plans to set up a play ground and a children’s park in each of the city’s 57 wards to engage youth in constructive activities.

Vowing zero tolerance against corruption, Shawkat Hossain Sarkar said coordinated efforts would be taken to establish accountable governance and improved civic services.
