Over 4.54 lakh cases receive Govt-funded legal aid

DHAKA, Feb 28, 2026 (BSS) - Legal assistance has been provided at government expense in 454,488 cases for indigent justice seekers through the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO), according to a report published on the organization's website. 

The report highlighted detailed information on legal assistance provided through the NLASO from 2009 to December 2025.

The report stated, during the period, legal assistance was provided in 3,355 cases through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office. 

Besides, 446,584 cases received assistance through Legal Aid offices in 64 districts, while 4,549 cases were supported through labour legal aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.

These services are being provided at the government's expense under the Legal Aid Services Act to assist financially insolvent and incapable justice seekers.

The activities of the NLASO are conducted under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
