DHAKA, March 4, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque has called upon leading corporate institutions of the country to come forward in supporting underdeveloped sports federations and promising athletes.

"Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has accorded the highest priority to sports at present and special initiatives have been undertaken to promote sports from the grassroots level. Coordinated efforts between the ministry and corporate houses would elevate the country's sports arena to new heights on the global stage," he said.

He made the call while speaking as the chief guest at an exchange of views meeting with representatives of top corporate institutions at the conference room of the National Sports Council today.

Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Md. Mahbub-ul-Alam chaired the meeting.

The state minister said that in line with the government's election manifesto, top priority is being given to the development of playgrounds.

Of the nearly 100 wards in Dhaka, land measuring 2-3 bighas will be acquired between every two wards to establish a new playground, he added.

He further said the government has undertaken a plan to build 64 sports villages with indoor facilities in each of the country's 64 districts.

The state minister also revealed that the government would provide necessary support for developing futsal grounds, as the game has gained popularity in recent times.

"There are plans to establish a full-fledged sports industry in the country, enabling the production of international-standard sports goods locally," he said.

This initiative, he said, would help earn foreign currency through exports and create extensive employment opportunities.
