Anti-drug views exchange held in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT, March 4, 2026 (BSS) - An anti-drug views exchange meeting was held in front of Nagerbazar Government Primary School here in the town this afternoon.

Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Golam Md. Baten presided over the meeting. 

During the meeting, local residents expressed concern over the alarming spread of drugs in the area. Some residents alleged that certain police personnel maintain connections with drug dealers. They also reported that drugs are widely circulated in several areas, including Nagerbazar, Railbasti, Suparipatti, the area behind the stadium and both sides of the railway line. 

Superintendent of Police Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury, Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Shamim Hossain, Deputy Director of the Department of Narcotics Control in Bagerhat Md. Mizanur Rahman and local dignitaries, among others, were present at the meeting.

DC Golam Md. Baten warned that drugs can destroy individuals, families, and society as a whole. He called on residents to remain vigilant and to unite in the fight against narcotics.

SP Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury said the district police have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drugs. "With everyone's cooperation, we will make Bagerhat drug-free," he said, urging locals to provide information about drug dealers.

Following the discussion, they conducted an inspection of several areas including Nagerbazar, the area behind the stadium and nearby railway settlements.
