CHATTOGRAM, March 6, 2026 (BSS) - Dr. Farhad Halim Doner, Advisor to the BNP Chairperson and Chief Advisor of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), has stressed the urgent need to formulate the Doctor Protection Act, Patient Protection Act and a comprehensive policy for the private medical sector.

He made these remarks while addressing a Doa and Iftar Mahfil organized by the DAB Chattogram unit during the holy month of Ramadan at The King of Chittagong in Panchlaish on Friday afternoon.

Dr. Doner said the DAB has played a significant role in the struggle against tyranny over the past 17 years. Highlighting future priorities, he outlined three major tasks ahead: the formulation of the Doctor Protection Act, the Patient Protection Act and the development of a structured policy for the private medical sector.

He emphasized that DAB leaders are already actively working on the Doctor Protection Act and underscored the importance of ensuring safety and professional dignity for medical practitioners. At the same time, he noted that a Patient Protection Act is equally necessary to safeguard the rights and welfare of patients.

Dr. Doner also pointed out that nearly 70 percent of healthcare providers in the country are connected to private medical services in some capacity. Many government doctors, he said, also engage in private practice after retirement. Therefore, he stressed the need to establish clear policies to regulate the involvement of newly graduated doctors in private medical services.

He further urged doctors in both government and private sectors to strictly follow government policies, remain punctual in their duties, and ensure quality healthcare services for patients. DAB, he added, will not support any activities that violate established regulations.

The event was presided over by DAB Chattogram Medical Unit President Professor Dr. Md. Jasim Uddin. Chattogram City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain attended as the main speaker.

Among the special guests were DAB Central Committee President Professor Dr. Harun Al Rashid and Secretary General Dr. Zahirul Islam Shakil.
