Nazrul’s 127th birth anniversary to be celebrated in Trishal nationally

MYMENSINGH, April 4, 2026 (BSS) - The 127th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam will be celebrated on May 25 nationally in Trishal, a profoundly significant place where he closely associated with his early childhood reminiscences.

State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom made the announcement while exchanging views with officials concerned, civil society figures and cultural personalities at Nazrul Auditorium and Community Centre in Trishal here.

Khyom hoped Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the event in person. 

Plans have been taken to present this year’s event in a unique and aesthetically appealing manner, he said.

The state minister said  Mymensingh has traditionally been a region rich in arts and culture. To further develop the country’s cultural arena, it is essential to ensure healthy and decent cultural practices, he said. 

He also emphasized strengthening cultural activities at school and college levels to instil proper cultural values among the younger generation from early age.

Speaking on the occasion, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yeaser Khan Choudhury said that after nearly two decades, an initiative has been taken to celebrate Nazrul’s birth anniversary at the national level in Trishal, which will end the long-standing deprivation of the people of Mymensingh. 

He said this year’s event will be modern, refined, and decent, preserving the dignity of the country’s cultural heritage. 

Divisional Commissioner Farah Shammi chaired the meeting while Mymensingh-7 (Trishal) lawmaker Dr. Md. Mahabubur Rahman, lawmakers of different constituencies of the division, Vice-Chancellor of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University Deputy Commissioners,    Superintendents of Police , Upazila Nirbahi  Officers, , officials from various departments, political leaders, and media personnel were also present.

After the meeting, the guests visited various sites associated with Nazrul’s memories and provided necessary guidelines to ensure the success of the event.
