DHAKA, April 4, 2026 (BSS) - Land Minister Md. Mizanur Rahman Minu today said the interests of genuine fishermen will be protected in the leasing of government water bodies across the country.

He made this remark while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop titled “Finalization of the Draft Government Water Bodies Act-2026,” held at the Sunamganj Shilpakala Academy auditorium.

The minister said the BNP government remains committed to safeguarding the interests of true fishermen as protecting public interests is the main goal of this government.

Flowing rivers will never fall under the leasing system, he added.

Minu said despite ongoing global challenges, the government has refrained from increasing fuel prices, considering the hardships of the people.

Land Ministry’s Senior Secretary A S M Saleh Ahmed chaired the event which was attended by local members of parliament, senior government officials, and representatives of fishermen.
