
DHAKA, Mar 14, 2026 (BSS)- Coordinator of the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas today called upon all concerned to take coordinated initiatives to eliminate the existing disorder and the suffering of the common people in various service sectors, including the country's transport sector.
He said, “It is crucial to establish discipline at all levels, including the transport sector, so that the people of the country can travel and get services without any hindrance.”
Shimul made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a views-exchange meeting aimed at ensuring a smooth, safe, harassment -free, and toll-free Eid journey, held at the Gabtoli Bus Terminal in the city today.
The meeting was organized by the Gabtoli Bus Terminal Road Transport Owners and Workers Unity Council.
Among others, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sarwar Hossain, Additional Police Commissioner S.N. Md. Nazrul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Anisur Rahman, President of the Owners' Association M.A. Baten and General Secretary Saiful Alam, President of the Bangladesh Transport Workers Federation Abdur Rahim Box Dudu, General Secretary Humayun Kabir, and Ramesh Chandra Ghosh spoke at the event.
Shimul Biswas said that various types of irregularities, overcharging of fares, toll collection (extortion), and discourteous behaviour towards passengers have been ongoing in the transport sector for long. Due to these reasons, common people are suffering regularly. He stated, "To protect the interests of the people, discipline must be established in the transport sector and all types of irregularities must be strictly curbed."
He further mentioned that a lack of discipline is observed not only in the transport sector but also in various administrative and service-oriented fields.
“As a result, the suffering of the common people is increasing. To solve these problems, the government, administration, transport owners and workers, and all other concerned must play a responsible role,” he added.
