KHULNA, March 23, 2026 (BSS) – Hundreds of visitors flocked to the Sundarbans, especially Karamjal, with their families and friends to enjoy Eid-ul-Fitr vacation.
Although there was not much crowd on the Eid day, the number of tourists significantly increased on Sunday and Monday, in different tourist spots in the Sundarbans.
The Sundarbans, a world heritage site, is known for its wide range of flora and fauna that include the Royal Bengal Tiger, the rare Irrawaddy and Ganges dolphins and various species of birds and animals.
Being the closest tourist attraction from Mongla, Karamjal draws tourists throughout the year. However, the influx peaks during Eid and other long holidays.
Karamjal houses the country’s only crocodile and turtle breeding centre, which remains a major attraction for visitors. The site also features a Sundarbans Information Centre, a long wooden foot trail and a high watchtower, offering tourists a chance to experience the forest closely. The free movement of deer and monkeys adds to the appeal.
Meanwhile, other tourist destinations in the Sundarbans, including Hiron Point, Katka, Kachikhali, Nilkamal, Dubla, Hardbaria and Andharmanik, are also witnessing a significant turnout of visitors.
The tourist spots have turned festive with the presence of people from all ages.
As the peak tourist season coincides with the Eid holidays, the number of visitors has increased substantially.
The Forest Department has taken initiatives to make the spots more attractive and strengthened security measures to ensure visitors’ safety.
Sheikh Abdul Halim, a tourist from Satkhira, said he had long read about the Sundarbans as a world heritage site and came to visit it for the first time with his family. “I am very impressed after visiting the spot,” he said.
Another visitor, Hasan Mahmud from Jashore, said he came with relatives and enjoyed the wildlife of Sundarbans.
“We travelled by road and then by boat. It was a wonderful experience for all of us,” he added.
Officer-in-Charge of Karamjal Tourist Centre Md Azad Kabir said tourist numbers have surged after Eid.
“Visitor number was low during Ramadan, but it has increased significantly after Eid,” he said, adding that favourable weather and enhanced security arrangements have contributed to the higher turnout this year.
