Child killed in Meherpur road accident

MEHERPUR, May 9, 2026 (BSS) - A six-year old girl was killed after being hit 
by a locally-made engine-run vehicle at Karamdi Sandhani intersection in 
Gangni upazila of the district on Saturday morning.
 
The deceased, Anisa Khatun, was the daughter of Sajedul Haque of Karamdi 
village and a first-grade student at a local government primary school. 
 
According to local sources, the accident occurred around 11:30 am on the 
Tentulbaria-Bamandi road when the sand-laden vehicle hit Anisa as she was 
crossing the road. She died on the spot.
 
Following the incident, local residents chased and detained the driver, 
identified as Sabbir Hossain, as he attempted to flee. Later, locals handed 
over him [the driver] to police.
 
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station Uttam Kumar Das confirmed the 
matter and said further legal action will be taken.
