DHAKA, 24 March 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Railway has awarded Md Enamul Haque for his key role in preventing a potential train accident by identifying a defect in the railway track.

He was presented with an honorary crest, certificate, and financial reward at a ceremony held today at the office of the General Manager of Bangladesh Railway’s West Zone, said a press release.

General Manager Farid Ahmed handed over the award to him.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Railways, Md. Enamul Haque, a resident of Purba Jagannathpur village under Birampur upazila in Dinajpur, noticed an approximately 7-inch fracture at a rail joint between Birampur and Fulbari stations at 6:50 am on 23 March.

He immediately displayed a red signal and instructed the Dhaka-bound Panchagarh Express train to stop, thereby averting a major accident.

Railway authorities said his swift and prudent action played a crucial role in ensuring railway safety and saving passengers’ lives.

Expressing gratitude for his responsible civic role, the authorities awarded him for his contribution.

Chief Engineer (West) Ahmed Hossain Masum, along with officials from relevant departments, representatives of railway workers’ organizations, and journalists were present at the event.
