
Bagerhat, March 24, 2026 (BSS) – The Bagerhat district administration has taken up a six-day colourful programme to observe the Independence and National Day with due dignity and solemnity.
As part of the programme, which runs from March 20 to March 26, various events have been arranged to mark March 25 Genocide Day and the Great Independence and National Day.
These include reminiscence and discussion meetings on the March 25 Genocide and the historic Liberation War, with the participation of eminent personalities and heroic freedom fighters, in all schools, colleges, madrasas and technical educational institutions across the district.
Besides, writing, recitation and painting competitions, exhibitions of rare photographs and documentaries, and screenings of films based on the Liberation War have been organised.
On the night of March 25, special prayers will be offered at all mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and educational institutions in memory of the martyrs. A symbolic blackout will be observed for one minute at 10:30 pm.
The day will begin with a 31-gun salute on the morning of March 26. At sunrise, the national flag will be hoisted at all government, semi-government, autonomous and private institutions, as well as private buildings.
Tributes will be paid by placing wreaths at the Martyred Freedom Fighters’ Memorial.
The national anthem will be performed at Bagerhat District Stadium under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner. A student rally, parade, and inspection ceremony will also be held.
A reception and discussion meeting for the family members of brave freedom fighters and martyrs will be held at the Zila Parishad Auditorium.
In addition, a friendly football match will be held in the afternoon. After Zuhr prayers, special prayers will be offered at all places of worship for the peace, prosperity and progress of the nation, and for the souls of the martyrs of the Liberation War.
On the occasion, improved meals will be served in government hospitals, prisons, government children’s homes, street child rehabilitation centres, child development centres, welfare centres for persons with disabilities, old age homes and other service institutions in the district.
Meanwhile, various political parties, including Bagerhat district BNP and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, have also taken programmes such as colourful rallies and discussion meetings to mark the day.
