SHERPUR April 5, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 16 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in the Sherpur-3 (Sribardi-Jhenaigati) constituency to maintain law and order ahead of the parliamentary by-election scheduled for April 9.

The deployment follows directives from the Bangladesh Election Commission to ensure that the election is conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

According to officials, BGB personnel will remain on duty for a total of eight days - five days prior to the election, on election day, and two days after - continuing their operations until April 11.

Their responsibilities include patrolling and assisting in maintaining overall security across the constituency.

The deployment is being carried out under the supervision of the BGB's Mymensingh Sector, with operational management by Mymensingh Battalion (39 BGB).

Four base camps have already been established in Sribardi and Jhenaigati upazilas, and BGB members have begun performing their assigned duties.

Given that the Sherpur-3 constituency is located along a border area, security measures have been further strengthened.

BGB personnel stationed at the border are also providing necessary support to ensure a stable environment during the election period.

BGB officials emphasized that the force routinely assists the civil administration in maintaining internal law and order.

For this election, BGB members will work in coordination with other law enforcement agencies to facilitate a smooth voting process.

Authorities expressed confidence that, through the joint efforts of all security agencies, voters in the Sherpur-3 constituency will be able to cast their ballots without disruption, ensuring a credible and peaceful election.

The by-election was initially scheduled for February 12 but was postponed following the death of Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Nuruzzaman Badal.

The rescheduled polling will now take place on April 9, as per the revised election timetable.
