DHAKA, April 9, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has strengthened surveillance and launched coordinated drive to prevent illegal stockpiling, black marketing, and cross-border smuggling of fuel in Naikhongchhari.

In response to a recent rise in unlawful fuel hoarding and trafficking, special measures have been undertaken under the directive of the BGB Director General, said a BGB press release.

The drives were jointly carried out by Naikhongchhari Battalion (11 BGB), the Upazila administration, and local police across Naikhongchhari market and surrounding areas.

On Wednesday morning, BGB personnel from the 11 BGB Battalion conducted raid in their area of responsibility, inspecting fuel stations, shops, warehouses, and other suspected locations.

Lieutenant Colonel Foyzul Kabir, Commanding Officer of Naikhongchhari Battalion (11 BGB), said that illegal fuel hoarding and smuggling pose a serious threat to the country's economy and energy security.

He emphasized that BGB is maintaining a strict position against such offences and warned that no one involved in these activities will be spared.

He further noted that maintaining discipline in the fuel sector requires collective efforts.

The army officer also urged local residents to immediately inform the nearest BGB camp if they notice any suspicious fuel-related activities in border areas.

BGB has already intensified regular patrols and intelligence surveillance, and such operations will continue in the future.

Local traders and members of the civil society have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that sustained monitoring will significantly reduce illegal hoarding and black market activities in the region.
