Court orders seizure of tax records of former BPDB chairman, family

DHAKA, April 12, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today ordered the seizure of tax records of former Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) chairman Md Belayet Hossain, his wife Farhana Hossain, son Md Adnan Hossain and daughters Rahat Ara Hriti and Shamim Ara Nitu.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed an order allowing the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)'s plea.
 
The petition stated that an inquiry is underway into allegations of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income and money laundering against Md Belayet Hossain.
 
"For the purpose of conducting a fair investigation, verifying income and expenditure details of the accused, and examining whether he owns any other assets, it is necessary to review income tax returns from the beginning of his tax filings up to the 2025-26 tax year for Md Belayet Hossain, his wife Farhana Hossain, son Md Adnan Hossain and daughters Rahat Ara Hriti and Shamim Ara Nitu," the ACC plea added.
