DHAKA, April 26, 2026 (BSS) - The Matarbari Coal Power Plant in Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar, has again started generating power on full-scale after a brief decrease in power production due to technical reason.
Muhammad Saifur Rahman, Chief Engineer (P&D), Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited (CPGCBL) confirmed BSS of the matter today.
He said small technical matters were solved in holidays particularly on Friday and the power generation of the plant is temporarily reduced at that time.
“The recent reduce in power generation was a part of technical activities. The full-scale power generation during the peak hours at the plant started last night,” he also said.
The two units of the plants are now producing over 1000mw of power, he continued.
“So, the generation of power will be normal over the week, if it is faced no technical fault,” he added.
The Matarbari Coal Power Plant is a major 1,200 MW ultra-supercritical facility in Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, developed with significant funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
