COX'S BAZAR, May 1, 2026 (BSS) - A timber-laden trawler from Myanmar has docked at Teknaf land port after a pause of one year and 17 days, bringing renewed activity to the port as import-export operations resume following disruptions caused by internal conflict in Myanmar.
Workers and traders have expressed relief as operations resume, though they have called for further support from the relevant authorities to expand trade.
Officials and stakeholders expressed that the resumption of imports will accelerate overall port activities.
According to port sources, a trawler carrying timber from Myanmar berthed at the jetty of Teknaf land port at 1:10 pm on Friday (May 1).
The arrival of the vessel immediately restored activity at the port. The shipment includes Champaful and Garjan varieties of timber.
Port worker Md Monju Alam said there is immense joy over the resumption of operations at Teknaf land port. He noted that more than 1,000 workers associated with the port had been suffering due to a lack of work for a long time. The arrival of the cargo-laden trawler has instilled new hope among them, and everyone is happy.
Trader Mohammad Amin said the arrival of the cargo trawler at Teknaf port after a long time has revived the port area.
"It will increase government revenue," he added.
He also said that the reopening of the port is restoring livelihoods for thousands of workers and day laborers, which carries significant impact on the local economy.
Revenue officer of Teknaf land port Mahmudur Rahman said a timber-laden trawler from Myanmar has arrived at the port after one year and 17 days.
The consignment includes a total of 963 pieces of Champaful and Garjan timber, with an estimated import value of about 16,120 dollars.
He added that the trawler is currently anchored at the port. After unloading, the goods will be inspected and assessed, and then released upon collecting government's revenue.
He further said that revenue collection is an ongoing process. As imports have resumed from May 1 after a long gap, goods are expected to arrive regularly in the future. In that case, efforts will be made to ensure quick clearance of goods and revenue collection.
