Former DGFI official Manjil remanded in uprising killing case

DHAKA, May 07, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today placed former Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) official Major (Retd) Manjil Haider Chowdhury on a three-day remand in a case filed over the killing of garment worker Rubel in the capital's Adabor Ring Road area during the July Mass Uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order as police produced Manjil before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand.

Police arrested Manjil Haider Chowdhury from Mohakhali DOHS area on April. He was placed a four-day remand in the case on May 3.

According to the case documents, a couple of hundred student-people including Rubel brought out a rally in Adabor Ring Road area in the capital on August 5, 2025. Around 11.30 am, the rally came under attack from police and cadres of Awami League and its front organizations. Rubel got shot and died on the spot.

Rubel's father Rafikul Islam filed the case on August 22 with the Adabor Police Station.
