Indictment hearing in foreign exchange act case against Anisul, Salman on June 21

DHAKA, May 12, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today set June 21 for holding a hearing on charge framing in a case lodged under The Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, 1947, against former law minister Anisul Huq and Salman F Rahman, former private industry affairs adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a time plea filed by the defence. 
 
Anisul and Salman, two stalwarts of the former Awami League government, were arrested from the Sadarghat area as they were trying to flee the capital through the waterways on August 13, 2024.
 
Police recovered USD 17,592 and 726 Singapore dollars from the possession of Anisul, while Salman F Rahman was carrying USD 12,624, 8,500 dirhams, 11,650 rials, 779 Singapore dollars, 150 British pounds, 1,332 euros, among other foreign currencies.
 
Sub-inspector Md Sajib Miah of New Market Police Station filed the case with Kotwali Police Station on September 13, 2024. Police, after probing the case, filed a charge sheet against the duo on November 30, 2025.
