LALMONIRHAT, May 19, 2026 (BSS) - Import and export activities through Burimari Land Port, the country’s second largest land port, will remain suspended for eight consecutive days on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha and weekly holidays.
According to port authorities and traders, all trade activities between Bangladesh, India, and Bhutan through the port will remain closed from May 25 to June 1. Regular import-export operations are scheduled to resume on June 2.
The decision was announced in a notice issued on May 18 by the Burimari Land Port C&F Agents Association.
Officials said the suspension follows a joint decision taken by India’s Changrabandha Import-Export Association and the Changrabandha C&F Agent Welfare Association ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. Copies of the decision have already been sent to customs authorities, C&F agents, labour organizations, and Bhutanese trade-related bodies.
Mustafa Salauzzaman, president of the Burimari Land Port Import-Export Association, said the port would remain closed for a total of eight days, including Eid holidays and weekly closures.
Despite the suspension of trade activities, passenger movement through the immigration check post will continue without interruption.
Saifur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Burimari Immigration Police, said travelers holding valid passports and travel documents would be able to cross the border normally during the holiday period.
Meanwhile, Burimari Customs Assistant Commissioner Matlebur Rahman said limited administrative work would continue during the Eid holidays in line with directives from the National Board of Revenue. However, full-scale import and export operations will remain suspended until June 2.
