
CHATTOGRAM, May 21, 2026 (BSS)- Bandar Thana police have arrested two employees for their involvement in smuggling containers filled with clothes worth millions of taka from inside the Chattogram Port.
Bandar Thana's officer-in-charge, Mohammad Abdur Rahim, confirmed the arrests of Mizanur Rahman and Abu Sufian during a raid on Wednesday.
Mizanur Rahman, aged 35 and the son of the late Wahab Akon from Ulubaria village in Mathbaria, Pirojpur, holds a high-level external assistant position at the Chattogram Port.
Abu Sufian, aged 40 and the son of the late Abu Taher from Shaheed Ullah Master Bari in Senbagh Upazila of Noakhali, works as a Keep Down SC-188 at the port.
Police reported that a container filled with garments imported from China was stolen from Chattogram Port's yard between August 4 last year and April 2 this year. The stolen container belonged to Moazuddin Textile Limited of Gazipur and contained clothes worth millions of taka.
The container, with the number TCLU8557304, was initially unloaded from the ship by berth operator Bashir Ahmed and stored at the port's JR yard.
When C&F agent S Zaman & Brothers (Pvt.) Ltd. attempted to retrieve the container after paying customs duty, it was discovered missing from the yard. A case was filed at the Port Police Station.
Following a thorough investigation, two port employees were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the theft.
They are currently being interrogated to determine if others were also involved in the smuggling incident.
