One fined, jailed for illegal sand extraction in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, May 21, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court in Monohardi upazila today fined a man Tk 100,000 and sentenced him to 15 days in jail for illegally extracting and selling sand from a riverbank in Chargohalbariya area under Krishnapur union.

The convicted person was identified as local resident Chan Mia.

According to the upazila administration, the drive was conducted following a tip-off about illegal sand extraction activities in the area.

Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Monohardi upazila Md. Sajib Mia led the mobile court and imposed the punishment under the Balumahal and Soil Management Act.

The administration said drives against illegal sand extraction would continue to protect rivers and the environment.
