
NARAIL, May 21, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 812 farmers have been selected through an open lottery for the government’s Boro paddy procurement programme in Sadar upazila, aiming to ensure transparency in the collection process for the 2026 season.
The lottery was held on Thursday morning at the conference room of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s office, organized jointly by the Upazila administration and the Upazila Food Department.
The event was presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer T.M. Rahsin Kabir. Among others present were Sadar Upazila Food Controller Khondaker Tajuddin Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Upazila Godown Md. Ahsan Kabir, Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Rokonuzzaman, Police Inspector Md. Akram Hossain, representatives of Narail-1 and Narail-2 constituencies, local journalists, union chairmen, and officials concerned.
According to the Food Department, the target for Boro paddy collection in Sadar upazila this season has been fixed at 2,430 metric tons. A total of 11,752 farmers from 13 unions and one municipality applied to sell paddy under the government procurement programme.
Under the lottery system, each of the selected 812 farmers will be able to sell up to three metric tons of paddy to the government at a fixed rate of Taka 36 per kilogram.
In addition to paddy procurement, the government will also purchase 2,512 metric tons of parboiled rice from 19 enlisted rice mill owners at Taka 49 per kilogram.
Officials said the procurement drive will continue until August 31 this year.
