Strict action against noise pollution in Shahjalal Airport area: DNCC administrator

DHAKA, June 05, 2026 (BSS)- Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Safiqul Islam Khan today warned of strict action against noise pollution in the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area, which has been declared a silent zone.

He made the announcement while addressing a noise-awareness rally and gathering at Gulshan-2 Circle on the occasion of World Environment Day.
 
The programme was jointly organized by DNCC, Department of Environment (DoE), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).

“The airport area has been declared a silent zone. From today, no noise pollution will be tolerated there. Anyone violating the law will face action in accordance with law,” he said.

Safiqul Islam said Gulshan, Banani, Niketan and Baridhara had also been designated as silent zones and stressed the need for public cooperation to reduce noise and air pollution in the city.

Director General of the Department of Environment Dr Lutfor Rahman highlighted the steps being taken for control noise pollution. 

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) of DMP Anisur Rahman said the Traffic Division had intensified efforts to curb noise pollution since being empowered under the Noise Pollution Control Rules, 2025.

He expressed hope that city residents would gradually be benefited from the initiatives, urging all citizens to support noise-control measures.

Representatives of local societies, government agencies, environmental organizations and civil society attended the programme.
