Sports cards to be increased from 300 to 500: Aminul Haque

GAZIPUR, June 28, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque today said the number of sports cards distributed for the welfare of the country's athletes will be increased from 300 to 500.

He said this while responding to media query after addressing as the chief guest at the 'Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Talented Athletes Reception-2026' held at the auditorium of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) Academy in Shafipur under Kaliakair upazila of the district this afternoon.

The minister said, "Currently, 300 athletes are receiving allowances through sports cards. To honor and support more contributors to the country's sports arena, another 200 athletes will be brought under this facility, raising the total number to 500."

He further added that as part of a long-term government plan to advance Bangladesh's football, initiatives have already begun to groom players from the grassroots level. He expressed optimism that if this initiative is implemented consistently, Bangladesh football will be able to establish a strong position on the global stage within the next 15 to 20 years.

Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud was present at the function as the special guest.

During the ceremony, 23 Ansar members were accorded reception and awards for their outstanding achievements in various national and international competitions.
