160 gold bars seized in Dhaka airport

DHAKA, July 2, 2026 (BSS) - In a major haul, 160 gold bars weighing 18.720kg from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) here on Thursday morning. 

The gold was seized from Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-148) this morning after the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) tipped off authorities about a possible smuggling attempt using the cargo hold, according to a press release of HSIA. 

A joint team comprising DGFI, Aviation Security (AVSEC), Customs and Biman Bangladesh Airlines' security division conducted the operation in which a total of 18.720kg of gold (160 gold bars) were seized, the release added. 

The seized gold has been handed over to Customs, and legal proceedings are underway. 

A case was registered with Bimanbandar Police Station in this regard.
