Father, son killed in road accident in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 2, 2026 (BSS) - A father and son were killed in a head-on 
collision between a truck and a motorcycle on their way to a wedding in 
Gangachara upazila of Rangpur on Thursday. 
 
A seven-year-old child who was with the victims has been admitted to the 
hospital with serious injuries. 
 
"The accident occurred at around 2 pm in the Manthona Bazar area of Barobeel 
union of the upazila," Gangachara Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) 
Md Abdus Sabur told BSS this evening. 
 
The deceased were Nirmal Chandra Roy, 75, and his son and rural physician 
Prashant Chandra Roy, 35, of Paschim Mandrain village in Sadar union of the 
upazila. 
 
Quoting locals, police said that Nirmal Chandra Roy, his son Prashant Chandra 
Roy and grandson Bandhan Chandra Roy, 7, were going to a wedding function in 
Boraibari Tulshihat village of the same upazila on a motorcycle. 
 
A recklessly driven truck collided head-on with the motorcycle in front of 
Manthana Jute Mill while they were on their way.

Prashant Chandra Roy died on the spot. 
 
Nirmal Chandra Roy was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH) in 
critical condition, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. 
 
Injured Bandhan Chandra Roy is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU at 
the same hospital in critical condition. 
 
The bodies were handed over to the family. 
 
The OC said that the driver fled the scene after the accident, leaving the 
truck behind. The truck has been taken to the police station. 
 
"Legal action is being taken in the incident," he added.
