
MYMENSINGH, June 2, 2026 (BSS) - Wheelchairs, sewing machines and bicycles have been distributed among 53 underprivileged persons, persons with disabilities and ethnic minority families in Mymensingh.
The items were formally distributed at separate programmes held at the office of the Sadar Upazila administration this afternoon. The assistance was provided under the Prime Minister’s special allocation and various government development projects aimed at promoting self-reliance and economic empowerment.
Abu Wahab Akand Wahid, lawmaker for Mymensingh-4 (Sadar), attended the programme as chief guest. He sought blessings for the eternal peace of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and incumbent democratic leader Tarique Rahman, as well as for the welfare of the beneficiaries.
Earlier, to improve the quality of education and encourage sports among students, sports equipment including footballs, volleyballs, tennis balls and cricket bats with stumps were distributed among 185 educational institutions under the ADP project at the Upazila Parishad hall.
The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Ariful Islam presided over the programme, where Education Officer Monika Parveen, Upazila Engineer Rakibul Hafiz, Kotwali BNP President Helal Ahmed, General Secretary Ataharul Islam Bulbul and others attended as special guests.
After the programme, saplings, fertilisers and bamboo fencing materials were distributed among 82 government institutions under the Prime Minister’s tree plantation campaign by the Upazila Agriculture Office. Medical supplies were also distributed by the local administration.
It was informed that around Tk 500 million has been allocated for the development of 166 mosques and madrasas in the Sadar upazila. Besides, 98 road projects are ongoing, earth-filling works in six schools, madrasas and Eidgah grounds are underway, and development works in six temples have been allocated funds. Construction of multi-storey buildings for three educational institutions worth around Tk 500 million is also in progress.
