Housing Minister, new development authority chairmen pay tribute to Zia, Khaleda

DHAKA, July 12, 2026 (BSS)- Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher and newly appointed chairmen of different development authorities today paid tribute at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

The minister accompanied by Rajshahi Development Authority Chairman Abul Kalam Azad, Sylhet Development Authority Chairman Rezaul Hasan Lodi, Mymensingh Development Authority Chairman Motahar Hossain Talukder, Cumilla Development Authority Chairman Udbatul Bari Babu, Rangpur Development Authority Chairman Shamsuzzaman Samu and Narayanganj Development Authority Chairman Mashukul Islam Rajib, placed wreaths at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia at Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, said a PID release.

Later doa and munajat were offered, seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia.

A large number of leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its associate bodies were present on the occasion.

Under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, six new development authorities have been established in Sylhet, Mymensingh, Barishal, Cumilla, Rangpur and Narayanganj.

The principal objectives of these authorities are to maintain the balance of the geo-natural environment and ecosystem in their respective regions, prevent unplanned urbanisation, ensure disaster-resilient urban management, promote the development of information technology and the tourism industry, and build well-planned and modern cities by providing improved civic amenities.
