DHAKA, 13 July 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan has pledged to undertake comprehensive efforts, in coordination with RAJUK, WASA and all other relevant agencies, to prevent lake bank erosion within the DNCC area and to ensure that rainwater does not accumulate on roads in the future.

He made the remarks today while speaking to journalists after inspecting the lake bank erosion and rainwater-induced waterlogging in front of Manarat University on Road No. 104 of Gulshan-2 in the city.

The Administrator said, if city dwellers become more conscious and the drainage system is further improved, the problem of rainwater accumulating on the capital's roads can be largely resolved in the future.

He called upon residents to cooperate in keeping drains clean by refraining from littering and dumping garbage indiscriminately.

In response to a question, Shafiqul Islam said that a permanent solution to waterlogging is impossible without reclaiming the canals that have been encroached upon under the jurisdiction of Dhaka North City Corporation.

"It is essential to free the encroached canals from illegal occupation to keep the city livable and to resolve waterlogging in the long term," he said.

Seeking the cooperation of the media and city residents in this endeavor, he said that mosquito infestation in various areas of the capital has already decreased as a result of cleaning several canals and drains including the Muslim Bazar canal.

The Administrator directed the concerned officials to take necessary measures to quickly remove accumulated water from the roads and to prevent future waterlogging.
