DHAKA, July 16, 2026 (BSS)- State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit has said the July mass uprising did not emerge overnight, it was the result of years of public anger against the authoritarian rule, absence of democracy, repression, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings and human rights violations.

He made the remarks while addressing a discussion marking July Martyrs' Day-26 at Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner's Office as the chief guest.
Member of Parliament from Khagrachhari Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan attended the event as the special guest.

The July movement was not the achievement of any single individual or political party; it was the outcome of the collective struggle of the country's pro-democratic people, the state minister said.

He added that the incidents of enforced disappearances, killings and other actions that caused deep public anguish during the Awami League's tenure under the fascist rule of Sheikh Hasina must never be repeated, and ensuring that was the responsibility of all political forces.

The state minister also said that he had been working in the flood-hit areas for the last week as part of his responsibility to coordinate and oversee the government's rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts following recent heavy rainfall and flash floods in the three hill districts, as well as Chattogram and Cox's Bazar districts. He said his visit to Khagrachhari was the part of that effort.

Senior government officials were present on the occasion.
