DHAKA, July 22, 2026 (BSS) – Korean Ambassador Jijoon KIM has reaffirmed Korea's commitment to Bangladesh's industrial development, describing local Samsung manufacturer Fair Electronics as an example of bilateral cooperation in technology transfer and manufacturing.
During a visit to the Samsung manufacturing facility of Fair Electronics in Shibpur, Narsingdi today, the ambassador said Bangladesh has strong manufacturing potential and could emerge as a regional manufacturing hub by leveraging its workforce, supportive policies and Korean technology, according to a media release.
Accompanied by Managing Director of Samsung Bangladesh Jungmin Jung, the ambassador also stressed the effective implementation and enforcement of the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) system to curb duty evasion, discourage illegal mobile phone imports and create a level playing field for local manufacturing and investment.
The delegation was received by Chairman of Fair Group Ruhul Alam Al Mahbub, Director of Fair Group Mutassim Daiaan and senior officials of Fair Group and Samsung Bangladesh.
Speaking on the occasion, Ruhul Alam Al Mahbub said the company remains committed to strengthening Bangladesh's manufacturing sector through global partnerships and technology transfer.
He urged the government to take stronger measures against grey-market and unofficial mobile phone imports, saying a supportive policy environment would accelerate local manufacturing, increase government revenue, attract new investment and create more employment opportunities.
Jungmin Jung reaffirmed Samsung's long-term commitment to Bangladesh and its continued partnership with Fair Electronics to expand local manufacturing while maintaining Samsung's global quality standards.
He also highlighted Samsung's AI-powered connected ecosystem, saying Galaxy AI smartphones, AI TVs and Bespoke home appliances connected through Smart Things provide smarter, more connected and more convenient experiences for consumers.
During a media briefing, Chief Marketing Officer of Fair Group Mohammed Mesbah Uddin outlined Samsung's journey in Bangladesh, highlighting Fair Electronics' transition from distribution to manufacturing and its contribution to sustainable industrial growth.
He said Fair Group became Samsung's official distribution partner in 2014, established Samsung's local manufacturing facility in 2017 and introduced Bangladesh's first locally manufactured Samsung Smartphone in 2018, making Samsung the first global Smartphone brand to manufacture mobile handsets in Bangladesh through Fair Electronics Ltd.
Among others, Director, MX Business of Samsung Bangladesh Daniel Rhee, Director, Consumer Electronics Business of Samsung Bangladesh Shahriar Bin Lutfor, Director of Fair Group Selim Reza, Head of Marketing of Fair Group J M Taslim Kabir, Head of Business of Fair Electronics Moshiur Rahman, Third Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea Heon CHO and Senior Specialist (Political and Economic Affairs) at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea Jiwon PARK attended the event.
