DHAKA, July 22, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan today said Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has been working to serve the country and its people under the directives of the Prime Minister.
He made the remarks while inaugurating a tree plantation and cleanliness drive, along with Shaheed Wasim Akram Square at the National Institute of Health in the capital's Mohakhali as the chief guest.
Shafiqul Islam Khan said the present-day JCD was built through years of struggle and sacrifice, not overnight, adding that its leaders and activists had endured immense hardships over the past 17 years.
He said many JCD leaders had lost their lives due to persecution during the previous government's tenure, while thousands of leaders and activists faced repression for participating in various movements and struggles.
"Their sacrifices and contributions should be remembered by the nation," he said.
Inaugurating Shaheed Wasim Akram Square, the DNCC administrator said the sacrifice of July movement martyr Wasim Akram would remain unforgettable.
He expressed hope that the establishment of Shaheed Wasim Akram Square would help the younger generation learn about and remember the martyr's contribution and sacrifice.
Principal of the National Institute of Health, president of the College Chhatra Dal, teachers, students and people from different walks of life were present at the programme.
