DHAKA, Sept 7, 2026 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to investigate allegations of wasting and misappropriating public funds through corruption and irregularities in the purchase of walkie-talkies by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

ACC Deputy Director of the Public Relations Department Md Aktarul Islam disclosed the information at a regular media briefing at the ACC headquarters here today.

He said the commission has already appointed investigation officers and a supervising officer to conduct the inquiry into the allegations.

According to the complaint, a local company was awarded the contract to supply the walkie-talkies despite lacking the required experience. The company allegedly used a certificate of a Chinese firm.

The complaint also alleged that the walkie-talkies were purchased at prices several times higher than those paid by other government agencies, resulting in wastage of public money.

It further alleged that despite being government employees, the concerned DNCC officials engaged in the activities with a dishonest intention of gaining personal benefits.

The ACC said it had conducted an enforcement operation on August 17, 2025, following allegations of misappropriation of public funds through irregularities and corruption in the purchase of walkie-talkies by the DNCC.

Based on information obtained during the operation and subsequent allegations, the commission has now decided to launch a formal investigation.

The investigation will examine irregularities in the procurement process, the prices of the walkie-talkies, the eligibility of the supplier and the roles of those concerned.
