DMP arrests 502 in 24-hour drive, files 71 cases

DHAKA, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 502 people and filed 71 cases during its regular anti-crime drives across the capital in the past 24 hours.

The arrests were made in operations conducted by different DMP divisions and police stations across Dhaka, the police said in a press release today.

Of those arrested, 18 were detained by Ramna Division, 28 by Lalbagh, 55 by Wari, 72 by Motijheel, 94 by Tejgaon, 134 by Mirpur, 32 by Gulshan, 50 by Uttara and 19 by the Detective Branch (DB).

During the drives, police seized 7,942 yaba tablets, 5.25 kg of cannabis and 3.2 grams of heroin.

They also recovered a mobile phone, a knife, four machetes, a spoke wrench, two helmets, two pickup trucks, 150 litres of diesel, a drum, a battery, a plastic pipe and Tk 2,200 in cash.

The detainees were arrested in connection with various offences, while legal proceedings against them are underway.
