Two truckloads of cigarette-making equipment seized in Bagerhat

DHAKA, Sept 9, 2026 (BSS) - VAT Division, Bagerhat, under the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Khulna, has seized two trucks loaded with cigarette-making machinery, a large quantity of cut tobacco and other production materials.

The trucks were seized during a raid conducted on Tuesday night based on a tip-off, according to a press release issued by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) today.

According to the NBR, a search of the trucks led to the seizure of cigarette-making machines, various equipment, cut tobacco, cigarette filters, foil paper, a generator, gum, Scotch tape, cigarette paper and other materials used in cigarette production.

The seized goods include one cigarette-making machine set comprising two parts, one packing machine set comprising two parts, 50 plastic crates, one generator, 51 sacks of cut tobacco weighing 25 kilograms each, totalling 1,275 kilograms, 76 rolls of cigarette paper, five cartons of filter paper, three drums of gum/flour, 54 rolls of foil paper, six boxes of packet-making paper, one air tank and 100 pieces of Scotch tape.

Preliminary examination of samples of the seized goods indicated that the equipment was sufficient to set up an almost complete cigarette manufacturing facility, the NBR said.

Necessary verification and legal proceedings regarding the seized trucks and goods are underway.
Meanwhile, steps are being taken to deposit the seized goods at the Customs, NBR added.
