Mohammedan thrashes Rupganj for a first victory in DPL

DHAKA, March 6, 2025 (BSS) - Mohammedan Sporting Club secured their first victory in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), defeating Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club by seven wickets at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today.
 
Mohammedan, which was stunned by newcomer Gulshan Cricket Club by 107 runs in the opening game, rode on half-centuries from Mahidul Islam Ankon and Towhid Hridoy to return to winning ways.

Ankon hammered an unbeaten 81 off 97 balls with five fours and two sixes, while Hridoy blasted 74 not out off 47 balls, clobbering 11 fours and one six, as Mohammedan reached 225-3 in 37.5 overs to secure victory, overhauling Rupganj's total of 222-9. 

Ankon and Hridoy sealed the victory by sharing an unbeaten 119-run third-wicket stand. 

Mohammedan made a poor start when captain Tamim Iqbal was dismissed for cheaply once again after scoring 14. Rony Talukdar made 36 to steady the innings before Ankon and Hridoy powered the side to victory.

Ebadot Hossain, Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed two wickets apiece to derail Rupganj after they were asked to bat first. 

Skipper Al-Amin Junior top-scored with 41 while Tanbir Hayder made 37 for Rupganj.
