Tigresses upbeat to show better performance in World Cup

DHAKA, Sept 22, 2025 (BSS)-The Bangladesh Women's team is keen to put up a better show in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup, surpassing their achievement in the previous tournament.

The Women's team took part in the ODI World Cup for the first time in 2022 and made an instant impact by beating Pakistan. 

Their head coach Sarwar Imran believes that they have a genuine chance to double it up by securing a victory against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in their second outing in the marquee tournament.

"We'll go match by match but I think we have good chances to beat teams like Pakistan and Sri Lanka," Sarwar Imran told the reporters here today after the team's official photo shoot before the World Cup at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

The veteran coach said they won't leave an inch without fighting whoever comes their way. 


"There is no doubt that we'll give our hundred percent but apart from those two teams, other teams are much ahead of us in terms of strength and cricket culture," he noted. 

"We are not overrating anyone else. We will play every match to win. If we play our best cricket, there is chance to beat anyone. When we enter the ground, we will see them as equals and play every match to win," he revealed, adding the victory against Pakistan in the last tournament would inspire them to eclipse the previous achievement. 

"In the last World Cup, we beat Pakistan. This time we are expecting to win even more matches and that's the target."

Bangladesh Women's team however, didn't play any International matches since February. Only they had played some matches against the Bangladesh Under-15 team and the result was not satisfactory.

"It would have been good if we could play against bigger teams. In that case, ideal would be ideal," Bangladesh Women's team captain Nigar Sultana Joty said, adding that still they got enough facilities to prepare them well for the upcoming challenges. 

"But I think we got access to every facility that is available in Bangladesh. All the camps we have had so far - we received every opportunity," Joty added. 

"There was every effort to make our preparations good one. Whatever we didn't get, I'm not worrying about that. With whatever preparation we had, I believe the players have tried to give their best," she pointed out.
