FM Subrota emerges champion in GM Zia Memorial 2025

DHAKA, July 11, 2025 (BSS)- FIDE Master Subrota Biswas of Sports Bangla has 
won the title of GM Zia Memorial 2025 that concluded today (Friday). 

FM Subrota Biswas won the title by securing eight points in nine games. FIDE 
Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia became runner-up and Indian International Master 
Kushagra Mohan finished third with 7.5 points each. 

Their ties were broken by tie-breaking system. Indian International Master 
Shuvayan Kundu became fourth, International Master Manon Reja Neer became 
fifth and Anata Choudhury became sixth with 6.5 points.

FIDE Master Sakline Mostafa Sajid became seventh and FIDE Master Khandaker 
Aminul Islam became eighth with six points each. 

Special awards were given to the best rated player Sk Rashedul Hasan, the 
best junior Nepalese Candidate Master Silwal Purushottam and the best female 
woman Candidate Master Warsia Khusbu.

In the day's final round matches held at hall room of Bangladesh Chess 
Federation, FIDE Master Subrota Biswas defeated International Master Md 
Minhaz Uddin, FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia defeated FIDE Master Sheikh Nasir 
Ahmed, International Master Kushagra Mohan beat Candidate Master Silwal 
Purushottam, International Master Manon Reja Neer outplayed Woman Candidate 
Master Warsia Khusbu, International Master Subhayan Kundu beat Rishon Thapa, 
Anata Choudhury outclassed Tashriq Saihan Shan, FIDE Master Khandaker Aminul 
Islam defeated Md Muhaimenul Islam, FIDE Master Sakline Mostafa Sajid 
overpowered FIDE Master Md Sharif Hossain and Sk Rashedul Hasan defeated FIDE 
Master Debraj Chatterjee.

Syed Shujauddin Ahmed, president of Bangladesh Chess Federation, was present 
as the chief guest on the closing ceremony and distributed the prizes among 
the winners'.
