National Wushu Competition begins

DHAKA, July 23, 2025 (BSS) -The 18th National Wushu competition, one of the most prestigious events of Wushu, began at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur today (Wednesday), one day before the formal opening ceremony.

National Sports Council Secretary Aminul Islam is expected to open the five-day meet as the chief guest tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon. 

Bangladesh Wushu Federation (BWF) president Major General ASM Ridwanur Rahman will preside over the opening ceremony.

Nearly 418 athletes, coaches and officials from 28 teams, including the Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh, Bangladesh Police, Ansar and VDP and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan are participating in competition, organized by BWF. 

The competition, which will continue till July 27, included 27 gold medal events for men's and women's. Of these, 19 are in Sanda fight and eight in taolu. 

A total of 108 medals (gold, silver and bronze) will be awarded in various categories at the end of the competition.

It can be mentionable that the BWF is going to start the residential training camp Mirpur Sports Complex from August 1 with the winners after selecting from this ongoing national competition, where the gold and silver medal winners will be the main focus. The main objective is to organize the training camp to find new talented players for future international competitions.

Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain is expected to present in the closing ceremony as chief guest on July 27 and distribute the prizes. Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, Li Shaopeng will present as the special guest in te closing ceremony.
