National Wushu Competition inaugurated 

DHAKA, July 24, 2025 (BSS) - The 18th National Wushu competition, one of the most prestigious events of Wushu, was formally inaugurated at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur today.

National Sports Council Secretary Aminul Islam inaugurated the five-day meet as the chief guest. 

Bangladesh Wushu Federation (BWF) president Major General ASM Ridwanur Rahman presided over the opening ceremony.

Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, NSC Secretary Aminul Islam assured all kinds of support for the development of Washu.

BWF president Major General ASM Ridwanur Rahman expressed optimism saying that if things work as planned, it is possible to bring back the good days of Wushu.

Nearly 418 athletes, coaches and officials from 28 teams, including the Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh, Bangladesh Police, Ansar and VDP and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan are participating in competition, organized by BWF.

The competition, which, began on July 23, will continue till July 27.
The competition included 27 gold medal events for men's and women's. Of these, 19 are in Sanda fight and eight in taolu.

A total of 108 medals (gold, silver and bronze) will be awarded in various categories at the end of the competition.

Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain is expected to present in the closing ceremony as chief guest on July 27 and distribute the prizes. Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, Li Shaopeng will present as the special guest in the closing ceremony.
