DHAKA, July 27, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh Under-19 team made a winning start to the tri-nation tournament, edging South Africa youngsters by 1-wicket in a thrilling contest at Harare, Zimbabwe yesterday (Saturday).

Hosts Zimbabwe are also involved in the tournament apart from Bangladesh and South Africa.

Electing to bat first, South Africa were bowled out for just 128 in 34.4 overs with Al Fahad wrecking havoc on the Proteas by claiming 4-32.

His four wickets also included South African opener Jorich Van Schalwyk who became the first cricketer to hit a double century in youth level cricket.

Thanks to his record-breaking double ton, South Africa thrashed Zimbabwe by 278 runs in the opening game of the tournament.

But this time he made just 10 and his side also couldn't resist Bangladesh youngsters who defied the nerve-wrecking moment to seal the victory in 28.4 overs with just one wicket at hands.

Samiun Basir led the charge as he stayed cool under pressure to seal the deal by remaining not out on 45.

South Africa's JJ Basson took 4-33 while his new ball partner Bayanda Majola grabbed 3-35.

Bangladesh will take on Zimbabwe in the next game tomorrow (Monday) at same venue.

The double-leg tournament sees each team face off each other twice in the group phase after which the top two teams will make it final.

Earlier, Bangladesh won the three-match youth ODI series against South Africa 2-1.
