EUGENE, United States, Aug 2, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Kenny Bednarek scorched to victory in the 100m at the US Track and Field Championships on Friday as former world champion Christian Coleman failed to book his place at the upcoming Tokyo World Championships.

Bednarek made full use of powerful 1.8+ m/s following wind to storm over the line in a personal best time of 9.79secs, ahead of Courtney Lindsey, who was second in 9.82sec at Eugene's Hayward Field.

T'Mars McCallum was third in 9.83sec while Trayvon Bromell was fourth in 9.84sec.

But there was disappointment for 2019 world champion Coleman, who finished fifth and out of the World Championship qualifying places despite a season-best time of 9.86sec.

Coleman was racing in Friday's final hours after it emerged that girlfriend Sha'Carri Richardson had allegedly attacked him earlier this week in what police described as a domestic violence incident.

Richardson was detained by police at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport following the incident on Sunday.

A police report said video footage showed Richardson repeatedly shoving Coleman before throwing a set of headphones at the sprinter, who declined to co-operate with a police investigation.
